A study done by the University of Indiana in the United States indicates that it is precisely the students of the Architecture and Urbanism course, those who most need to study and take the time to study if they want to graduate! Well, it does not even need research to verify something so obvious, because we have already experienced this reality. Although the university routine in the United States is somewhat different from the Brazilian one, for comparison purposes only, the Law course was 65th in the list.
According to the survey, Architecture students require, on average, 22.5 hours of preparation per week, which in this case represents 2.5 hours more than any other course.
There is no similar study in Brazil to make a parallel more compatible with our reality, however, we know how hard is the routine of every student who chose to graduate in Architecture, so that after starting the course some changes happen to happen in your life, such as:
# Social life x Time for studies
You realize this when your friends call you and you can not for several reasons: either having to turn around at night, or because you have a project delivery in two days, or because you simply have a morning and afternoon class, is exhausted and all he wants is to get home, take a shower and sleep. Not counting that stage you need to study and do internship. Then my friend, it’s really practicing detachment and saying goodbye to social life. The most that can happen is you go to the movies at the end of the week. And look there!
# Losing the notion of time
When starting a new project, the student avoids to the maximum the stops and resumed, because this breaks the line of reasoning. So, the normal thing is to spend hours and hours designing, scribbling, drawing, modeling …. and more of that time breaking his head and scribbling again. This becomes an endless loop. And then the result is that the student loses the notion of time. At the end of the semester the situation worsens even more. With the concern to finish the projects, to plot and to arrive at the time of the presentation, nor to eat remembers more;
# Keep looking good
If there is one thing you see in final delivery is that fellow with dark circles, walking dead style. You even doubt if that place is even a college or a bunker of zombies. That’s because it’s almost impossible not to turn one night before final delivery. So in the final stretch everyone is already exhausted from turning night, stand in front of the computer and do mock-ups. And as if that were not enough, we still have to present our beautiful project and answer the questions of all teachers (yes, in that state). Are we or are not we?
# Coffee and more coffee
I confess to you that I’ve never been a big fan of coffee. But after I started to do architecture … I always take it when I turn night. Because it just works for me! Usually when it’s 5:00 in the morning is my peak sleep time. So I go and prepare that beautiful coffee that comes down like a feather and keeps me awake for the rest of the day! I love you coffee! <3
# Enhance sleep
There’s nothing better than sleeping people, really! If you have not started making architecture, enjoy it while you can. Your bed will be the most coveted object after you begin to do architecture and need a lot of time to study! There really is nothing better than sleeping (eating, maybe ..).
